Rules for Life #41 Let go of #inaction!

It is often the things that we don’t do that determines our path in life, it is true.

We all like to have nice things, the latest material items that may boost our prestige or kudos. Yet, most of us will happily settle for routine, doing tomorrow, what we did yesterday over and over again. Just how much do we want it!

All those people who we admire or despise in public life, did one of three things… 1) they were not ready to accept the status quo. 2) they had an internal drive to achieve or master something, and 3) opportunity knocked and they seized it with both hands and some.

Let’s look at all three areas in more detail.

PROCRASTINATION. You just have to look at the famous people who may post a quote, say on Twitter, and they get plenty of likes and retweets, and someone unknown makes an identical upload, and will be ignored. Same quote different response, clearly then it is not the quote that matters, it is who tweeted it. It is all about image, perception and stardust, and to be associated with a public figure for some is like a shot of ego juice in their vein, much like taking a selfie with a public figure. Well, that public figure is no different from those in their fan base, that public figure just wasn’t prepared to allow each day to roll into years until it is too late, nope, they wanted to make a name for themselves, and with it comes fame, and all that is associated with such a status, good, bad and indifferent.

A topical subject right now.  #Weinstein

MOTIVATION. Pretty much every action we take, requires a level of motivation. Now for most of us, getting up in the morning and going to our place of work, the by-product of doing this, is getting paid. For others, it’s about doing what they love doing (not work), for others it is about competing against Mr. or Miss somebody for the coveted prize, while for others not doing so, could be the difference between a roof over their heads, or sleeping rough. Whatever it is, MOTIVATION is always ever-present. But there’s motivation and then there’s MOTIVATION. I am motivated to stay healthy, without health I have very little… so my motivation to remain in great shape mentally and physically is a key driver for me. But I am also motivated to achieve new bench marks, and goals. Something I have always done. Think of your fav musician, they were once a beginner too!

What motivates you to do something extraordinary?

TAKING A RISK. Nothing in life alters without embracing change. CHANGE. We only have to look at the leaves of the tree at this stage of the season, to see the beauty of what change can display. Opportunities, and I mean serious opportunities may only happen 3 or 4 times in one’s life. The golden key to grasping such an opportunity is to listen to your silent voice, that inner voice in your upper chamber that is telling you to do or not to do over and over again, well not doing is to continue as-is. We’ve all been there. If I had listened to my silent voice on one or two occasions, I would be living in a completely different world right now. It isn’t easy to discern what is right when faced with a remarkable opportunity, it can be intimidating, or you allow others to talk you out of grasping that golden baton and running with it for the same reason.

So how will you know if it is the right decision if you never make it?

So let go of INACTION, see how your life can become filled with experiences you used to daydream about, or continue to silently imagine.

Time waits for no one, so take action and let go of inaction!

Procrastination is the Devil!

It is highly likely that the majority of us are not happy with our daily lives – be it career, love, family etc.
Most of us will get (note not using the word ‘wake’) up and do more or less what we did yesterday, and hope and wish for change.
Many of us will whine, complain and moan about this and that, yet do nothing to positively make a lasting beneficial change.
I was viewing a video on YouTube of the late Jim Kelly; yes he of Enter The Dragon & Black Belt Jones fame, talking how he always set goals, and once he achieved those goal, he would put in place more goals to take him where he wished to be in his life.
Of course, not all of his experiences were positive, but he kept on focusing and reaching for his high aims, and more often than not, accomplished them. He wasn’t an actor, he was a martial artist, and he readily mocks his acting ability but bigs up his karate skills. He made his name in that cameo role in Enter The Dragon, he actually said he wasn’t the one to be killed in the movie, it was meant to be John Saxon, but he did not have the film track record that Saxon had, so he was written out early… I felt his frustration.
His goal setting took him from a good all round sportsman, and leading karateka to a Hollywood star.
Most of us would have experienced that empowering feeling of having reached a goal, executed a hard won task, or delivering against a long term or held aim. There’s no feeling quite like it right? Be it passing an exam, or making a meal following a recipe – I DID IT!
Yet lurking like a human shadow, there’s the devil I call procrastination… yes he or she, or it… always ready and motivated to knock on the wall at the back of your mind, and nearly always successfully delivering that common excuse… I’ll do it later, someday, not in the mood etc. Sounds familiar?
Someone once told me that our lives are determined by the THINGS WE CHOOSE NOT TO DO… Boom!
As ever, I will always believe in the immeasurable power of CHOICE, choice can take you there or leave you here!
You have the power of choice too, it really depends on whether you will afford your daily devil shadow some wriggle room or slam the door shut and create the life you’re capable of and genetically deserve.

Self sabotage

Self sabotage… we all do it.

There’s something we should do, want to do, yet we don’t or won’t do.

Sometimes it’s out of fear, sometimes it’s over thinking, sometimes we under estimate ourselves and sometimes we have grown so used to our comfort zone that we believe change just isn’t necessary; well “not right now!”.

We all like to feel appreciated right? It’s a wonderful feeling.

Do you know the easiest way of receiving appreciation is to give it?

In fact, if I tell someone I appreciate them, it seems to carry more value, meaning and power, than if I said I love them.

Lets face it, the word love is thrown around like confetti…one can go from love, to dislike and outright hatred in a heart beat.

The people who achieve the most are those who dare the most – #fact

You want to live the life of your dreams, then throw caution to the wind and be bold, be audacious, and set your mind free!!

You are in complete control of your life, you must believe that. Every single decision you make has a consequence.

Decide on what consequence you want and execute that critical decision to make it happen.

Tuesday blessings.

Why Wait?

I was drawn to a posting made by an inspirational friend on Facebook recently; she drew my eye to the subject of ‘regret’. Now this is a subject that I have expressed opinion on before.

Anyway, my mind is inclined to work overtime, become supercharged once stimulated, and just before entering the land of nod, I previewed what it is that I wanted to express here today.

The energy we call ‘Life’, will make clear, opportunity in a range of identities on a regular and consistent basis. Some opportunities are grasped while others are missed; nothing too startling there you might think, this is obvious – and you would be right. We do know however, that those who grasp, will often be sitting at the head of the table of success, but I digress.

We humans are a fascinating species; often a paradox in how we behave.

For instance, when it comes to self-preservation, addressing pain, responding to life threats, we do not hesitate to act. Indeed it is as if we are programmed to deal with the matter in hand without hesitation, without thinking – it is instinctive! So when danger, hurt, threat lurks, we know exactly what to do, even with limited knowledge or ability – we just do it!

On the other hand, when it comes to pursuing the good things in life, those things that ‘we know’ will improve our lives, makes us short-term happy and long-term contented, we procrastinate, mull over and deny ourselves the obvious choice to make! Why?

If there is an expert on such matters, or a stimulated follower reading this who would like to enlighten, I invite you to comment.

We may feel drawn to that someone, but we will not venture to open dialogue through fear of rejection or feeling foolish. We know that by making an effort to exercise more, that our health will benefit, yet it is easier not to… In short, where positive benefit and positive experiences can be had, we dilly and dally!

An opportunity missed, will almost certainly lead to the ‘if only’ silent voice in your head at some future date.. yes that gnawing, exasperating feeling of regret. Whether it is if only ‘ I did’ or ‘did not’, it does not matter one jot, the opportunity has gone, it is in the past; and though the obvious choice was staring you point-blank in the face, you um’d and ar’d until the angel of opportunity sought a more welcoming subject for her gifts.

So here’s my point. Why wait?

Why wait to ask the question that is constantly on your mind? Why wait to get yourself off that sofa in front of your TV and do a little exercise? Why wait to make that call, write that letter or send that e-mail? Why wait to say ‘I LOVE YOU’ ? Why wait to pursue your dreams, realise your potential and live the life you deserve, and is there for you to have!?
