Rules for Life #41 Let go of #inaction!

It is often the things that we don’t do that determines our path in life, it is true.

We all like to have nice things, the latest material items that may boost our prestige or kudos. Yet, most of us will happily settle for routine, doing tomorrow, what we did yesterday over and over again. Just how much do we want it!

All those people who we admire or despise in public life, did one of three things… 1) they were not ready to accept the status quo. 2) they had an internal drive to achieve or master something, and 3) opportunity knocked and they seized it with both hands and some.

Let’s look at all three areas in more detail.

PROCRASTINATION. You just have to look at the famous people who may post a quote, say on Twitter, and they get plenty of likes and retweets, and someone unknown makes an identical upload, and will be ignored. Same quote different response, clearly then it is not the quote that matters, it is who tweeted it. It is all about image, perception and stardust, and to be associated with a public figure for some is like a shot of ego juice in their vein, much like taking a selfie with a public figure. Well, that public figure is no different from those in their fan base, that public figure just wasn’t prepared to allow each day to roll into years until it is too late, nope, they wanted to make a name for themselves, and with it comes fame, and all that is associated with such a status, good, bad and indifferent.

A topical subject right now.  #Weinstein

MOTIVATION. Pretty much every action we take, requires a level of motivation. Now for most of us, getting up in the morning and going to our place of work, the by-product of doing this, is getting paid. For others, it’s about doing what they love doing (not work), for others it is about competing against Mr. or Miss somebody for the coveted prize, while for others not doing so, could be the difference between a roof over their heads, or sleeping rough. Whatever it is, MOTIVATION is always ever-present. But there’s motivation and then there’s MOTIVATION. I am motivated to stay healthy, without health I have very little… so my motivation to remain in great shape mentally and physically is a key driver for me. But I am also motivated to achieve new bench marks, and goals. Something I have always done. Think of your fav musician, they were once a beginner too!

What motivates you to do something extraordinary?

TAKING A RISK. Nothing in life alters without embracing change. CHANGE. We only have to look at the leaves of the tree at this stage of the season, to see the beauty of what change can display. Opportunities, and I mean serious opportunities may only happen 3 or 4 times in one’s life. The golden key to grasping such an opportunity is to listen to your silent voice, that inner voice in your upper chamber that is telling you to do or not to do over and over again, well not doing is to continue as-is. We’ve all been there. If I had listened to my silent voice on one or two occasions, I would be living in a completely different world right now. It isn’t easy to discern what is right when faced with a remarkable opportunity, it can be intimidating, or you allow others to talk you out of grasping that golden baton and running with it for the same reason.

So how will you know if it is the right decision if you never make it?

So let go of INACTION, see how your life can become filled with experiences you used to daydream about, or continue to silently imagine.

Time waits for no one, so take action and let go of inaction!

Regrets are necessary…

There’s no worse feeling than having a deep sense of regret is there, it is just one of those NOooooo experiences right!?

More often in life than not, it is the things we DON’T DO that dictates our path in life.

From time to time we are presented with exceptional opportunities that are so blatantly obvious, that some of us will freeze in disbelief, resulting in a sense of trepidation.

The ‘should I shouldn’t I’ scenario, summed up as procrastination.

Often when faced with this moment in time, one often choose to avoid taking the moment to seize the moment.

That sense of trepidation should be heeded and embraced, it’s your higher-self revealing a clear channel for change, not just any change, a lasting enriching LIFE CHANGE.

It is truly understandable that many of us will err on the side of caution, it is the what’s behind the door moment, don’t open it or the yongibongibow will be there waiting for you.

Many of us will find and have found just when we are faced with calamity, good fortune comes to our rescue. It is no accident dear reader, we get in life what we put in life.

For example if you do bad deeds, bad outcomes will follow. If you do good stuff, the good stuff fairy will be at your back; there to protect you from failing or losing or feeling enough is enough.

Paradoxically, that enough is enough moment is necessary, without it we will continue to move forward in a straight line superfast into the proverbial brick wall without ever thinking deeply to change what we do so we can avoid that brick wall.

Regrets are powerful tools for change, real change, not just any change, a lasting enriching LIFE CHANGE, if we choose to wake up and smell the regret coffee.

We often choose to think a regret as a NOooooo moment, but in fact, it is a signal for change, a sharp prod in our rib cage, a necessary slap on the back of our confused head.

So the next time you arrive at a regret moment, pause and ask yourself this…

What do I do now? Will I let the perceived negative experience halt me in my tracks and force me to make decisions based on an emotional mood, or will I wake up and smell the regret coffee. Choose wisely!

Seriously, before taking action, think first, remove the emotional aspect from your thinking and think with clarity, with focus on what your next decision will be.

What do I want for me? Not many of us ask this profound Q enough.

The fading positive values of #truth and trust.

It’s been a challenging world in recent years, trust of powers, authorities and each other are arguably the lowest I’ve witnessed in my lifetime thus far.

Truth is becoming an increasingly rare quality, even among our own friends and family.

Truth is a social requirement, it forms the foundations of trust; another fading human quality. Without it, the fabric of our human society is in danger of imploding. Wars, famine, refugees and other needless man-made crises are driving wedges between once peaceful and united communities.

I don’t know about you dear reader, but I am fond of people who mean what they say, and say what they mean.

You just know where you stand with such people; however there’s a growing sense that such people are few and far between.

As a result, more of us choose to remain in our ‘personal bubble’ and absorb sceptical info from the media, or choose to live in a digital world, where you can delete or add people with relatively minimal consequences, or our young stepping out of their homes with knives and other tools of destruction, just as many of us would grab our phones before leaving our respective abodes.

But how do we entrench and nurture truth and trust?

Well one way, is to do what toddlers do… Be open, less judgemental, choose to live in the moment, live la Vida Loca, smile more, cry more, giggle more, dance more, instinctively learn different languages, be curious, read more, play more.

As an adult, we can stop over thinking, travel more and be more inquisitive about each other, talk to strangers more, embrace transformational change, be courteous and conform to positive social behaviours.

All the above requires personal application however, yes only positive human interaction can develop a much-needed rich culture of trust and truth between us all.

One more thing, we also need leaders of people, positive role models, people who can positively inspire our young; they are our future after all right?

I’m doing my bit for the cause, I invite you to do the same.

The opposite of this is well…  TRUMP WORLD, FAKE NEWS, TERRORISM, ALTERNATIVE FACTS, HUMAN TRAFFICKING the very real risk of GLOBAL DESTRUCTION as a result of man-made choices and actions.

OK, let’s end on a positive note, IT’S NEVER TOO LATE!

Remove your mental fence!

Our lives is structured to be a challenge from the moment we were born, and for good reason too. Without challenges we simply would stagnate mentally, emotionally and physically. Yet many of us recoil at the thought of change… changing a relationship, changing a hairstyle, changing who we become friends with, changing jobs, changing where we live, changing how we react to this or that, changing what we eat or drink.

Yet the biggest challenge for most, is changing how we think!

How we think is the nucleus of how our lives will unfold. Now I don’t want to reach an age when I can’t get about, or my mind is less cogent than it is right now and look back and wished I had experienced this or that, and I am sure many of you will feel similar. Yet there are those of us who feel the same way and without a doubt, 2017 will be almost identical to 2016, 2015, 2014 and so on. Why? In my humble view, there’s something intangible that provides a deep level of comfort, and thus allows them to be locked into a thought pattern that does not permit them to challenge themselves too much.

I know some people who will not eat a cuisine that’s different from what they’re used to, I also know some people who will not befriend anyone from a different race or culture, I know some people who annually will always go on a holiday to the same place… every year!

Nothing wrong with this of course, if it makes them feel a sense of comfort, great; however what if they chose to try that different morsel of gastronomic delight, or befriended someone from a different race or culture that enriched their world for the better, or visit a place that will bring an unforgettable and unimaginable experience.

What, If…

I am driven to help people make subtle and distinct changes in their lives (small steps long journey), when I write my mind becomes alive! I have nothing to give but my (sometimes professional) thoughts on this and that… much of which we all share as human beings. In sharing my thoughts, I feed my own mind with rich healthy nutritious thinking.

Let me be clear here and now, Reading and Writing keeps the mind simmering for that chink of wisdom and good fortune that will be attracted into that necessary gap in the mental cage, these along with embracing and accepting change and making informed and moreover insightful choices, the uncharted winding roads to deep spiritual insight and luminescent serenity will be made crystal clear before you.

Have you ever noticed those unique people who you may pass in the street who seem not to have a care in the world, displaying a gentle yet beautiful smile on their face – trust me, these individuals have endured much, will have interesting stories to tell (if you ask them), and have come through the other side feeling liberated if not enlightened.

Liberating your mind is the key to untold peace and pleasure, don’t waste your precious time or this year by repeating what you have done, year in year out, or trying to control what’s around you, or simply being stubborn, remove your mental fence!

2016… n my wishes.

Trump, Jo Cox, Brexit, Aleppo, Yemen, Sudan, Putin, North  Korea, Isis, refugees, Turkey…

Are the astrological stars combining to give us an alarming wake up call?

It’s easy to think negatively about stuff, even as an eternal optimist I too at times think something is up. What that is I’m not certain, but there’s no mistaking that 2016 has been a year of surprises and in many ways one of tragedy upon tragedy.

Though good news rarely sells does it?

Yet we must first look at that person in the mirror

All change starts with self.                     All change begins with choice.               All change can and will only happen with affirmative action.

For me 2016 has been all about change. Nothing small, but hoped for lasting and significant change.

I’ve deleted so called ‘friends’, and discovered meaningful beings in return.

I’ve moved nations, and my home environment is unquestionbly on a personal level a more life enriching one.

We’re on the verge of a new year; 2017. A year that may well be one which will consist of more questions than answers.

Needless to say I wish all my readers a positive end to 2016, and sincerely hope that during this festive season you will have peace of mind, security, and unrelenting love.

Merry Christmas!

Dare to challenge yourself…

stretching-minds-new-dimensions

Some of the challenges and conflicts we personally and socially face is due to the fact that many of us fail to challenge ourselves – feeling comfort in the COMFORT ZONE.

I’ve often referred to in this site to our birth right… we would not be able to crawl until we are left on the floor to learn coordination, we could not walk until we have fallen down umpteen times – and this same model of daring to learn to discover to experience and moreover to fail is somehow lost by many of us as we move into adulthood.

The question for me is Why?

It is not a coincidence to me that in recent elections and referendums, it is those that chose to vote conservatively in general, are those that don’t like change. Yet all of us without exception growing up during our childhood, change was and even now still remains absolutely necessary.

An intolerance to change is not linked to any decision or choice posed, it is within the emotional psyche and sometimes the ignorance of the individual.

I have often found that those who travel not to a seaside resort (and there’s nothing wrong with those who do), but to destinations of real historic and cultural interest, places that could be labelled a once in a lifetime opportunity. Africa, India, China, places where the inhabitants have not changed their way of life for a millennia. It seems to be to me at least, that many of those who do are less judgmental, more compassionate, more inclined to understand founded upon knowledge, more inclined to integrate and have a more worldly, balanced and fluid perspective on the challenges that they may and will face in their lives.

We can all do so much better can’t we? Individually and collectively.

We can all learn so much more about ourselves and others if we break free of our comfort zone, and in so doing, breakdown all the perceived and imagined barriers that quite often in reality don’t exist!

It will be clearly uncomfortable for some, some may need to remove their preconceived and unfounded thoughts about this and that, and in some cases some will need to be courageous!

I can state here and now, when one does, it is an exciting, eye-opening and empowering experience.

I think it is what our entire world needs right now.
